When the Vine Bloomed and the Sunbird Came: A Balcony Story

When the Vine Bloomed and the Sunbird Came: A Balcony Story

About four years ago, I brought home a small plant, not knowing that it would quietly become part of my daily life.

It was one of the first in my plant collection, and to this day, it remains the most special: the Bleeding Heart Vine (Clerodendrum thomsoniae).

I was new to plants then, picking them up one by one, learning as I went. I didn’t know what I was doing exactly—just that greenery brought peace,
and flowers brought happiness. But this one felt different. With its rich red blooms tucked inside delicate white petals, it looked like something out of a storybook.

I placed it near the edge of the balcony, where the light lasted longest—and waited.

๐ŸŒž When the Sunbird Found It

One evening, while watering the plants, I noticed a flash of color in the air. A tiny sunbird, shining in shades of green and purple, fluttered in and landed near the vine.
It hovered, tasted the nectar from one flower, then another, wings buzzing softly like a hum. I froze. It was one of those rare, quiet moments when everything feels still—except the heart.

From that day on, the sunbird came every evening. Like clockwork. It would hop between flowers, sip gently, chirp a little, and then vanish into the sunset.
And somehow, that small routine began to feel like a blessing. The vine had become more than a plant. It was a tiny ecosystem, a gathering place, a little bit of magic on my balcony.
And I was just lucky enough to witness it.

๐ŸŒฑ From Pot to Jungle

The vine didn’t stop growing. It thrived—wild and full, wrapping itself around everything, creating a green curtain that softened the edges of the world outside.
Season after season, it bloomed without fail. It gave me joy, comfort, and those little everyday wonders that are so easy to miss.

But over time, it began to take over. The whole balcony was covered. The light struggled to get through. I knew it was time for a reset.

So this week, I finally did it—I cut it all back.

It was hard. Each snip felt like letting go of a memory. But sometimes, even the things we love need space to grow again.

๐ŸŒธ Meet the Bleeding Heart Vine

This vine is a tropical climber from West Africa, known for its beautiful heart-like red and white flowers.
It's not just pretty—it brings life. Birds, butterflies, and yes, sunbirds, love it.

๐ŸŒผ Why Now?

As I pruned the last of the branches, it hit me how much this vine had been part of my story.
It marked the beginning of my plant journey. It brought color, birds, and a kind of quiet rhythm to my days.

Right now, the balcony feels a little empty. But I know it’s just temporary. The vine will return. And who knows—maybe the sunbird will too.

A Thrilling Escape to Bheemeshwari Adventure and Nature Camp

A Thrilling Escape to Bheemeshwari Adventure and Nature Camp

Day 1: Immersing in Adventure and Nature

Our journey began at the Bheemeshwari Adventure and Nature Camp, a haven for nature enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike. Nestled near the base of the Kaveri River, this place promised a blend of serene beauty and exhilarating activities.

Upon arrival, we checked into our log hut – a cozy, rustic accommodation that perfectly complemented the natural surroundings.

After a refreshing welcome drink, we were ready to dive into the experiences awaiting us.

Lunch at the Gol Ghar was a delightful affair. The buffet spread was a treat to our taste buds, setting the tone for the adventures ahead.

The afternoon was dedicated to the Adventure Package. We tried our hands at a variety of activities - Zip lining, Burma loops, parallel walk, cat walk, and elephant foot walk. Each activity was a unique challenge, pushing us to our limits while ensuring utmost safety.

As the sun started to dip, we geared up for water activities in the Cauvery river. The experience of navigating the calm yet powerful river was exhilarating, to say the least. A relaxing tea and coffee session at the Gol Ghar followed, allowing us to unwind and soak in the beauty of our surroundings

Pano-View

The evening brought a new adventure with a Safari ride. The thrill of exploring the wilderness as dusk fell was incomparable. We were able to spot various animals such as deer, jackals, peacocks, crocodiles, wild buffaloes, a diverse array of birds, and languor monkeys. Each sighting added to the excitement of the Safari. However, there was a tinge of disappointment as we couldn't spot leopards or bears, elusive creatures of the wild.

After the Safari and a sumptuous buffet dinner at the Gol Ghar, the night held another surprise. Near the bushes around the resort, we found bunches of deer hiding. Being a jungle resort, these deer seemed to feel safer around human habitation than deep in the forest, where predators like leopards, jackals, and wild dogs lurk. Among these groups, we spotted an alpha male deer vigilantly guarding its herd. With just a sweep of our panoramic torchlight, we could see the reflective eyes of 30 to 50 spotted deer, a mesmerizing sight indeed.

As we gathered around a campfire for a barbeque party, the stories and laughter shared under the starlit sky made this day truly unforgettable.

Day 2: A Brush with Wilderness

The next day began early with a wake-up call and a warm cup of tea/coffee served in our room. We then embarked on a guided trek/nature walk in the forest. The tranquility of the morning, coupled with the raw beauty of the forest and Kaveri River, was a refreshing experience.

Post the trek, a hearty breakfast awaited us at the Golghar, reenergizing us after the morning excursion.

Sadly, it was then time to check out. As we bid farewell to the camp, we promised ourselves to return, for there were many more adventures to be had in this beautiful escapade.

Wildlife Encounters and Final Thoughts

Our stay was not just about adventure but also about connecting with nature. The blend of thrilling activities, wildlife encounters, and the serenity of nature made it a perfect getaway. For anyone looking to reconnect with nature and seek some adventure, Bheemeshwari Adventure and Nature Camp is the place to be.
